The New York Yankees are losing some minor league pitching depth.

"Brock Selvidge, No. 15 Yankees prospect, recently had internal brace surgery on his left elbow; he'll miss the 2026 season," MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo wrote on Bluesky.

"Had a pinched nerve in his left biceps that required surgery in 2024," Mayo added. "Was back up to 97 mph early this spring."

Selvidge was a third-round pick out of high school in 2021. The left-hander stands 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, and is the Yankees' No. 15-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline.

The 23-year-old made 16 of his 19 outings last season at Double-A Somerset, where he posted a 4.92 ERA with 61 strikeouts compared to 38 walks in 75 innings.

Selvidge's timeline to MLB pushed back

Selvidge's surgery will keep him off a professional baseball mound for the entire 2026 season. A nice showing throughout the summer could have set him up to be a September call-up. However, he's not as well-known as Carlos Lagrange and Elmer Rodriguez.

Still, there's a lot to like about his future potential.

"Scouts like his athleticism and mound presence, and the Yankees hope he can get back on the path to becoming at least a No. 4 starter," Selvidge's MLB Pipeline bio reads.

At his best, the lefty's fastball topped out at 97 mph, and he mixes in a low-80s slider and mid to high 80s cutter.
