Cody Bellinger tagged up, thinking he could beat a throw on a deep fly ball to advance from second base to third base.
The New York Yankees' star did beat the throw, initially. The problem came with what happened next.
Bellinger slid headfirst into third base, and he went right on by.
The Steven Kwan throw from the outfield made it to third baseman Jose Ramirez just a little bit away from the bag, and Ramirez was paying attention.
As soon as Bellinger went too far, Ramirez pounced to tag him while he was off the base:

The good news for the Yankees is that it didn't negate the run that scored on the sacrifice fly.
The bad news is that they didn't have another runner at third base with one out and instead lost the chance to add on another potentially simple run to get across the plate.
In what shaped up as a low-scoring game, it was a costly mistake for sure.
Bellinger probably got just a bit messed up by the place Ramirez went to receive the throw in from the outfield, but still, his slide shouldn't have taken him that far.
It's a long season, and sometimes rhythms can get thrown off on an individual play. Clearly, that's what happened for Bellinger here, and it can't have been a very fun moment for him as he realized he was going just a bit too far.
