Yankees’ Carlos Lagrange report could hurt their chances of winning American League East

I'm of the belief that the New York Yankees need to make a move as soon as possible to ensure they have a chance to win a World Series.

Not that winning the American League East is the end-all, be-all for the Yankees, but teams that win their division feel a lot more confident come postseason time for many reasons. That's something the Yankees are going to have to consider if they want to get a deal done before the deadline.

There are also other ways the Yankees can improve their roster on both sides of the baseball, including calling up some of their top prospects. One guy in particular that Yankees fans are calling for is Carlos Lagrange, a big right-hander with a low-100 mph fastball.

While it would be wise to call him up and put him in the bullpen, it was recently reported that it still feels like a ways away.

“Before the Yankees call up Lagrange, who throws 103 mph, they have to transition him to the bullpen in Triple A to make sure he can handle it. That might still be a ways away. The Yankees have talked about preferring to build a good innings base for Lagrange this season before trying him in the bullpen.

“They still view him as a potentially high-level starting pitcher and would want him to continue to build in that fashion in 2027. He’s made 11 starts at Triple A this season, compared to 23 last year between High A and Double A,” Brendan Kuty of The Athletic wrote.

It's unfortunate that it's still viewed as a ways away, but it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise to Yankees fans. Lagrange has been lights out in Triple-A, and he definitely deserves his shot, but he hasn't thrown as a bullpen arm for nearly all of his career and is just getting worked up for that.
