The Sporting News High School Boys Basketball Top 25 — March 25: Dynamic Prep No. 1 heading into next Chipotle Nationals

2 hours ago 2

There's not a lot of movement in The Sporting News High School Boys Basketball Top 25 this week, but there was one frontrunner for the national championship that fell out of contention last weekend.

The Calvary Christian Academy [Fort Lauderdale, FL] Eagles saw their national title hopes disappear in a 71-69 loss to the Long Island Lutheran [Brookville, NY] Crusaders in The Throne tournament in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The event is sponsored by the National Basketball Players Association, and it is currently an NFHS-sanctioned event so Calvary Christian Academy was competing as just the "Eagles" while Long Island Lutheran was playing under the moniker of "LuHi."

But both teams had their star players, and the tournament is considered one of the nation's top postseason events. It represented the last opportunity for Calvary Christian Academy, Florida's FHSAA Class 3A state champions, to make its case for consideration for the title of The Sporting News High School Boys Basketball National Champion. Instead, the Eagles, who were ranked No. 3 going into the event, came up short against a talented but unranked LuHi squad in the semifinals, ending their season on a sour note in the process.

Calvary Christian Academy falls all the way to No. 18 with the loss.

They still have an outside shot at the national championship, but with no games left on their scheduled, they need a lot of help.
