Yankees add former Pirates, Athletics pitcher with 5.07 career ERA

The New York Yankees continue to be active on the waiver wire, claiming right-hander Osvaldo Bido from the Los Angeles Angels

In a corresponding move, infielder Braden Shewmake was designated for assignment to clear space on the Yankees' 40-man roster.

This is Bido's fifth waiver claim of the offseason. He spent the 2025 season with the Athletics, posting a 5.87 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 79.2 innings. Ten of his 26 appearances came as a starter.

Yankees add bullpen depth

Given Bido's inability to stick with one organization this winter, it's possible he doesn't end up competing for a bullpen role with the Yankees and ends up back on the waiver wire.

If he remains with the Yankees through spring training, he's insurance for relievers who could suffer injuries before the start of the regular season.

Bido stands 6-foot-3 and averaged 94.6 mph on his fastball last season. Opponents hit .252 against his slider but .297 or better against his other four grips in his pitch arsenal.
