Hall of Famer has incredible Shedeur Sanders message for Browns

1 hour ago 2

If new Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken, who is also calling the offensive plays, didn't have an idea of who his starting quarterback will be, Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith just gave him the answer.

With Monken stating the starting quarterback role is to be determined, that got some people a little confused, given Shedeur Sanders started the final month or so of the 2025 season.

Now, entering the offseason with a new head coach and offensive philosophy, you could easily make the case that Sanders is the clubhouse leader for the starting role under Monken.

And for Smith, who was a guest on the Up & Adams show, when asked if Sanders should be the Browns starter, he left no doubt on his thoughts.

"What does Cleveland have? Absolutely nothing," Smith said. "So, what's the debate? Are they going to give it to Dillon again?"

Adams then asked Smith whether, if it were his decision, he would start Sanders.

"Oh yeah, I haven't seen anyone else earn the right to be that, but him, and he hasn't played enough and haven't given him enough chances to be on the football field, and when he's on the field, they feel better, they look better," Smith added.

QB1 role Sanders' to lose?

Well, if Smith were in charge, that would certainly be the case, but of course, Monken has final say.

Sanders, at least right now, appears to be heading into the offseason with the best chance at becoming the starter under Monken, but there will likely be a battle for it in training camp.

With not many other options, and the fact of how the Browns looked completely different with Sanders under center, you could make the case that Shedeur deserves first crack at the starting role.

Smith laid the quarterback plan out there for the Browns.

Let's see if they listen.
