The New York Yankees have been one of the best teams in Major League Baseball, and the starting rotation has been a huge reason why.
But the offense is still one of the best in baseball, though there are some big questions with the starting lineup. Catcher hasn't been nearly good enough, same with a few of the infield spots. However, an underrated issue is the team's third outfielder.
Cody Bellinger and Aaron Judge have been good this season, but the Yankees, as Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report notes, likely have come to regret their $22 million decision on Trent Grisham.
"Offseason regret: Extending qualifying offer to Trent Grisham," Miller writes. "... He accepted the offer, but has been painfully unable to build upon his breakthrough campaign from last season."
The Yankees' decision to offer the qualifying offer for Grisham, which he accepted for a one-year $22.025 million deal, is one the team likely regrets, thanks in part to the combination of Jasson Dominguez and Spencer Jones.
Trent Grisham $22.025M decision is one Yankees likely regret
This offseason, the Yankees offered the qualifying offer to Grisham with some lingering concerns about the possible departure of Bellinger in free agency.
They were able to bring Bellinger back, but the return of Grisham on the qualifying offer, something the Yankees likely didn't expect Grisham to accept, has led to regret for the team this season.
After posting an incredible 2025 season for the Yankees with 3.5 bWAR and 34 homers in a breakout season that was significantly better than some of his recent seasons, he's struggled a ton.

This year, he has 0.3 bWAR in 50 games with six homers and a .681 OPS and 91 OPS+, which is well below his 123 OPS+ and .811 OPS from a year ago.
Had the Yankees not offered the qualifying offer for Grisham, they would've had $22.025 million to work with to bring in more talent for other parts of the roster, while relying on Jones and/or Dominiguez in this third outfield spot.
Grisham has been a disappointment this season, and with how expensive he is, it would've been much better if the Yankees hadn't extended the qualifying offer to him, and instead either signed him for cheaper in free agency or looked elsewhere in the OF.
