Start spreading the news….. Because they certainly were at Yankee Stadium after the Knicks rallied for a stunning 108-105 overtime win in Game 1 against the Celtics on Monday at TD Garden.
Yankees fans, who had to sit through a delayed start and a rain delay, erupted in the Bronx as news made its way around the ballpark that the Knicks had found a way to win.
During the action in the top of the seventh, Yankees broadcaster Michael Kay noted the sudden noise that started to bubble from the crowd.

— YES Network (@YESNetwork) May 6, 2025“Now you might hear the crowd cheering in the background and what’s going is that the Knicks have just beaten the Celtics by three in overtime,” Kay said as the YES Network cameras panned to a fan wearing a Knicks jersey and hat.
“So they’re following it on their phone while they’re sitting here watching the Yankees.”
A brief “Boston Sucks!” chant could be heard on the broadcast.
Yankee Stadium wasn’t the only New York venue where fans were celebrating.
Down in Manhattan, fans inside Madison Square Garden went crazy as they watched at a viewing party hosted by the Knicks.
Knicks fans inside MSG cheered and jumped up and down as Mikal Bridges got a hold of the ball in the final seconds to secure the Game 1 victory.
The celebration spilled outside as fans exited the World’s Most Famous Arena
The Knicks managed to come back from down 20 in the third quarter to win in overtime in a game where they were heavily believed to be the underdog.

“This team has fought all year,” Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau told reporters after the game. “It’s been a pretty good road team. We’ve had to endure some things with guys being out and I think over time that helps you build up your mental toughness. Understanding how important that is.”
The Knicks will face the Celtics in Game 2 with a 1-0 series lead on Wednesday.
