John Cena's last-ever WWE match will take place in December 2025 at Saturday Night's Main Event in Washington. Meanwhile, the company has teased a legendary wrestler's return. The veteran in question is Edge.

Edge, aka Adam Copeland, has played a pivotal role in John Cena's rise to the top, as The Franchise Player was the perfect babyface for The Rated R Superstar to have an intense feud with in the Stamford-based promotion. Both elevated each other, and their paths have crossed more than once in the company.

In 2023, Edge had his last match for the company on Friday Night SmackDown against Sheamus. Later, he appeared in All Elite Wrestling and became a recurring character. Recently, WWE Vault's YouTube channel uploaded the entire storyline between Edge and John Cena from 2002 to 2010.

The timing was no coincidence, as Cena recently revealed that superstars from different promotions could be in the 'The Last Time is Now' tournament to determine his final opponent. Moreover, this isn't the first time that WWE teased the likes of Edge and Chris Jericho's return to create hype around John Cena's farewell tour.

Will Edge or Chris Jericho return to WWE for John Cena's retirement match?

Chris Jericho and Edge became the talk of the town amongst the fans, as there were rumors that both could return to the Stamford-based promotion. While Y2J's rumored return will lead to a Hall of Fame induction and a retirement tour sometime in 2026, fans speculated that the Rated R Superstar would return only to face John Cena.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON), the insiders stated that the company is deliberately teasing both legends' return to the promotion ahead of John Cena's retirement. However, Edge and Chris Jericho will have no part in 'The Last Time is Now' tournament, and the two veterans are only used to create excitement.

Meanwhile, The Franchise Player has paid homage to both his former rivals in the promotion. It'll be interesting to see what's next for John Cena and which star earns the opportunity to face him in December 2025 at Saturday Night's Main Event in Washington.
