"Worst HC in football," "Fire him": Deion Sanders grilled by fans for questionable clock management in Colorado's loss to West Virginia

Deion Sanders saw his team fall again on Saturday. Colorado suffered a 29-22 loss to West Virginia at Milan Puskar Stadium in Morgantown, WV, marking the team's seventh loss of the season. The Week 11 defeat ends the possibility of the Buffaloes securing qualification for a bowl game.

One of the major talking points after the game was Coach Prime's clock management in the closing stages of the game. The Buffaloes’ coach made a questionable decision with the team's timeout as the game wound up, opting for a field goal after calling for it. This has sparked a lot of criticism from fans.

Colorado went scoreless in the first quarter, but grew into the game in the subsequent three quarters. However, that wasn't enough to earn the Buffs a win on the road. Freshman quarterback Julian Lewis was a bright spot for the team, throwing for 299 yards and two touchdowns.

Deion Sanders raised the expectation in Boulder with a 9-4 record last season, after a 4-8 finish in his inaugural season at the program. However, following the transition of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter to the NFL, the program has failed to live up to the billing in 2025.

The loss to the Mountaineers further elaborates on the disastrous season the Buffaloes are having. However, not managing the clock well late in the game has raised questions about Sanders' ability as a coach among fans.

Here's a look at some of the reactions online:

Deion Sanders is by far the worst head coach in football

@ScottProcter_ Deion needs to hire a clock management coach. He's absolutely clueless in end game situations

@SKOBUFFS22 Deion needs to be locked in a room and not let out until he has proven he knows how to manage the clock and timeouts

Deion’s clock management is so bad.

Deion just blew a timeout to kick a fg... that's really bad coaching.

Na yo fire Deion sanders for being a bad coach but I refuse to believe prime that dumb @FBIDirectorKash investigate this shit

Deion has no clue what to do lol Timeout with clock not running No-brainer to kick FG...but he is lost

Colorado AD expresses confidence in Deion Sanders

While it's been a disappointing season for Colorado in 2025, Deion Sanders continues to receive a lot of support in-house. The university athletic director, Rick George, expressed his confidence in Coach Prime during the week despite the call from fans to fire him.

“Sometimes you just don’t live up to expectations,” George said. “…It’s a challenging time with the House settlement, NIL, the revenue sharing, there’s expectations out there. When you don’t exceed those, or meet those expectations, there’s a lot of chatter, there’s a lot of negativity. “But I’m proud of ‘Coach Prime.’ It’s been a tough year for him and what he’s been through, and he’s just been a trooper, he’s working hard and motivating, and he’s doing the things I want him to do as coach. We’ve just got to win more football games.”

Deion Sanders inked a new five-year contract extension worth $54 million with Colorado during the offseason, making him one of the highest-paid coaches in college. His huge termination payout is expected to keep him at the program until the end of 2026 at least.
