Women's Euro 2025 prize money: Total purse for tournament, how much winners make

2 hours ago 1

The final of Euro 2025 takes place on Sunday in Basel as England and Spain face off for glory.

This match is a repeat of the 2023 Women's World Cup final, when the Lionesses suffered a 2-1 defeat in Sydney. It also replicates the final of the men's European Championship last year, which also ended in a 2-1 victory for Spain.

Sarina Wiegman's side have reached three major finals in a row and are bidding to become only the second nation in history to win back-to-back Euros crowns. They are, however, considered the underdogs against La Roja, who have developed into a dominant force in the women's game.

This year, the victorious side will also earn a huge share of a record-breaking sum of prize money.

Women's Euro 2025 prize money

The prize money for this year's Women's Euros is a staggering €41 million, which is more than double the €16m pot in 2022, and five times more than the €8m of 2017.

The majority of the total 2025 fund (around 70%) goes towards the fixed €1.8m participation fee for each team competing in the tournament, which is three times more money than in 2022.

The remaining 30% is allocated to performances bonuses, with a draw earning teams €50,000 and a win earning €100,000 in the group stages — numbers that increase by increments as the knockout rounds continue up to €1.75m for each finalist.

The club benefits package for the 2025 tournament has also smashed the previous record, as it has increased from €4.5m in 2022 to €9m in 2025, thus officially becoming the largest such programme in women's football.

This is divvied out according to the number of days that a player is concerned with the tournament: 10 preparation days, the days actively in the tournament, and one travel day.

Because clubs are compensated €985 per player per day, the minimum that clubs will receive — if, for example, their player's team was eliminated after the group stage — is €19,700. On the other side of the spectrum, clubs with players that reach the final and that were originally in Group A will receive whopping €36,445 per player.

How much do Euro 2025 winners make?

The maximum prize money available for the eventual winners is €5.1 million, which is more than double the €2m possible jackpot in 2022.

Having won all three group games and both knockout fixtures, Spain would pocket this sum if they were to win the final on Sunday. England would earn a little less given they lost their opener to France.

This huge increase is just as important for the players as the national body, as players are now also rewarded for their Women's Euros participation for the first time in history.

UEFA guaranteed that they will benefit from a portion of the prize money given to their national association.

With this new requirement, between 30% and 40% of the prize money must be shared equally between players — a percentage that is upped to between 35% and 40% for those teams that reach the knockout stages.

This significant sum is especially welcome given that it has never been compulsory to reward players from the country's earnings, and demonstrates the increasing regard and respect in which women footballers are being held.

The rest of the money will cover the national association's expenses, as well as financing initiatives to aid women's football development in that country.
