WNBA star Sophie Cunningham shopping tell-all book as she faces woke backlash over trans athlete comments

Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham is shopping a book, publishing sources exclusively tell Page Six Hollywood.

The 6-foot-1 guard — who has 3.7 million followers on Instagram — could find herself at the center of a bidding war, we hear, with the timely tome.

Cunningham, 29, has been dubbed “MAGA Barbie,” and is known as much for her off-the-court comments as her aggressive style of play.

Last month in an interview with ESPN, Cunningham made comments on trans athletes that blew up, including, “I got a lot of negative feedback about me hating trans… And I’m like, ‘I never once said that.” She added, “I think that I am here to extend love. But I also think with that love is truth, being honest. And I want to protect young girls in a locker room, or young girls in sport who shouldn’t have to go against biological men.”

The remarks sparked protests. Cunningham’s defenders included Stephen A. Smith.

Former U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe recently slammed Cunningham’s stance on trans athletes over the weekend — after Cunningham posed at a Fever vs. Lynx game on Aug. 2 with Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer who’s become an activist against trans participation in women’s sports.

Cunningham also recently made headlines when she was flagrantly fouled by rival player DiJonai Carrington, and Carrington then posted on Threads of the call, which saw her ejected from a game: “WHITE PRIVILEGE @indianafever.”

Cunningham told reporters of the incident: “This has nothing to do with race… Last year, I did the same thing, and I got kicked out. And I deserved to be kicked out. There’s no reason even to play that card.”

Cunningham has also been a surprise UFC ring card girl in Las Vegas, and the hardwood star has also shared that she has been approached by WWE to wrestle. She has also appeared as a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model.

Before going pro, Cunningham grew up in Columbia, Missouri, and led her high school squad to four straight state titles.

She played four years at Missouri as the Tigers’ all-time leading scorer, and was drafted No. 13 overall in 2019 by the Phoenix Mercury.

Last year, Cunningham was traded to the Indiana Fever and plays as a fearless enforcer for generational star teammate Caitlin Clark.

This month, reports said that her new Adidas shoes sold out immediately, and that she currently has two of the top five best selling WNBA jerseys.

A rep for Cunningham did not immediately get back to us.
