As the Atlanta Dream search for their first-ever WNBA title, they are doing so without knowing where they will play their final home game of the season.

Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will happen, as the series is tied 2-2, but it's unclear where the game will be played. Up to this point, the Dream have played every playoff game at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, but conflicts mean that arena is not available on the scheduled Game 6 night.

Therefore, the WNBA is working through possible alternatives to determine where the league should play Game 6. The Dream wants the game to have a legitimate home-court advantage, but the league also wants the game to be played in primetime.

Here's a breakdown of the WNBA's schedule issue for Game 6.

Where is Dream vs. Valkyries Game 6?

The WNBA still doesn't know exactly where Game 6 of the WNBA Finals will be played. The league hoped to have the game take place at State Farm Arena, but a Hawks home game means there is a conflict that can't be moved.

Therefore, the league is considering several options, including different locations or possibly moving both Games 6 and 7 to make sure they can play the game in State Farm Arena.

Why can't Dream vs. Valkyries be played at State Farm Arena?

The Hawks are set to host the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, and the NBA can't move that game. It is the second game of a back-to-back, as Atlanta plays the Miami Heat at home the night before, and the NBA can't simply move the game without there being other schedule repercussions.

Additionally, with both games taking place on a Thursday, the leagues face tighter schedule issues. Last week, the Dream hosted Game 4 at 1:00 p.m. ET, 2.5 hours before it was initially scheduled, but the game taking place on a Saturday made that decision easier.

For Game 6, though, the WNBA wants to try and avoid a day game for the WNBA Finals, especially when that game will be a clinching chance for either team. The NBA, meanwhile, said it can't move the date or time for the Hawks game either.

Dream vs. Valkyries Game 6 location options

Ideally, Game 6 of the WNBA Finals would take place at State Farm Arena, which seats a maximum of 17,000 fans. That is where the Dream played games over the Summer that required a bigger capacity, and it's where the Hawks play all of their home games during the WNBA season.

At the very least, the Dream can host the game at the Gateway Center, which is where Atlanta played most of their games in the regular season. However, that court has a capacity of just 3,500 people, as it is where the Hawks' G League team plays its games during the season.

Other options for the game include McCamish Pavilion on Georgia Tech's campus or Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia, but ESPN said the Dream don't think either of those arenas would provide enough of a home-court advantage.

The WNBA has considered moving both Games 6 and 7 to ensure that Game 6 is played at State Farm Arena, but those ideas also come with issues. Game 6 could move to Friday night, when there is no event at the arena, but that would require moving a potential Game 7 to Tuesday, November 3, which is also Election Day.

"We are waiting to hear from the league if any changes can be made to allow us to play in State Farm Arena," a Dream spokesperson told Alexa Philippou. "If not, the game will be played in Gateway Center Arena."
