After a dominant 41-6 win over the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional round, the Seattle Seahawks will have to continue their push without running back Zach Charbonnet.
Head coach Mike Macdonald announced that Charbonnet suffered a knee injury that will result in him undergoing season-ending knee surgery.
"It's a significant knee injury, unfortunately. Breaks your heart. He's going to need surgery, so he's got a good long road to come back," Macdonald said on the situation.
With one man down comes another having to step up for a larger assignment. Luckily, the Seahawks are in good hands with Kenneth Walker III.
Kenneth Walker III could get 20+ rushing attempts for the first time this season
Seattle has been working with a running back room that's nearly split carries between Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet.
Walker III finished the regular season with 221 carries, 1,027 rushing yards, and five touchdowns on the ground while adding another 31 receptions for 282 yards in the air.
Meanwhile, Charbonnet contributed 184 carries for 730 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns while adding 20 receptions for 144 receiving yards.
The two running backs' opportunities were almost cut in half.
But now Kenneth Walker III will have to step up big time, and he will have a chance to get 20 or more carries in a game for the first time this season.
He nearly got over this hump after Charbonnet went down in the Divisional win over the 49ers, going for 116 rushing yards on 19 carries with three touchdowns.
As Seattle looks to play the Los Angeles Rams for the third time this season for a chance to reach Super Bowl LX, head coach Mike Macdonald and offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak will have to figure out the rest of the season without Charbonnet complementing Walker in the backfield.
