Wilyer Abreu hits inside-the-park home run for Boston Red Sox

It was a wild start to the three-game series between the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds. It marked the second outing for Cincinnati Reds youngster Chase Burns, and it did not go well. He retired just one batter while allowing five hits and seven runs, five of them earned, while walking two batters.

Brent Suter came in to get the final out of the inning and pitched through the second and third innings. After jumping out to a 7-0 lead after one inning, Boston found itself leading just 7-4 heading into the bottom of the fifth. That’s when Wilyer Abreu did something most Major League Baseball players will never do.

MLB posted a video of 26-year-old Wilyer Abreu hitting an inside-the-park home run.

A little later, MLB shared another angle of the exciting play that showed the slugger driving the ball nearly 420 feet, with the Cincinnati center fielder falling down. Abreu finished the play with a headfirst dive into home plate, despite there being no throw.
