The Toronto Blue Jays are competing for not only a playoff spot but also the AL East title.
Toronto is currently three games back of the New York Yankees for the division lead. The Blue Jays are set to host the Yankees for a four-game set over Canada Day, and Toronto’s manager John Schneider, knows it's a key series for the playoff outlook.
“It’s still June going into July, but that’s a big series,” manager John Schneider said. “You get four against the team that’s leading the division, and they’re good. They’re a tough, tough matchup every single time, no matter who’s on the mound. I think this is an important series for a lot of different reasons, and it’s nice to have Max Scherzer on the mound tomorrow.”

Not only is this a pivotal series for the AL East, but Toronto and New York are both giving the ball to their four best starters, which adds to the intrigue of the series, according to Schneider.
“I like the way it lines up with who we've got throwing, and I think the bullpen is in good shape, too,” Schneider said. “It's a big series. You get four against a team that's leading the division.”
Toronto will start Max Scherzer on Monday, Kevin Gausman on Tuesday, Jose Berrios, and Chris Bassitt on Thursday.
The Blue Jays enter the series with a record of 45-38.
