Jerry Jones always talks about making a splash. How about signing an 8-time Pro Bowler?
The Cowboys have signed Von Miller, 37, to a contract. Adam Schefter first reported the contract for an undisclosed amount.
A team starving for championships just added a 2-time Super Bowl winner.
But rings don't equate to playing time.
Dallas has come off an offseason where they bolstered their edge rushers in the draft and via trade.
Von Miller will join a relatively unproven defense led by Quinnen Williams, who just got a 3-year, $105 million extension.
There is an argument to be made that a healthy Miller should be a starter. It's more likely that he is a weapon to put in on 3rd down and other selective situations.

Here's a look at what the Cowboys defensive ends look like with Miller in tow.
Cowboys defensive depth chart with Von Miller
Miller will join a 3-4 defense under new DC Christian Parker. It's a scheme the veteran is very familiar with.
Here's what the outside linebackers look like now:
OLB (weak side):
- Rashan Gary
- James Houston
- Von Miller
- Isiah Land
- Tyrus Wheat
OLB (strong side):
- Donovan Ezeriuaku
- Malachi Lawrence
- Sam Williams
- Marist Liafau
Von Miller's role with the Cowboys
Von Miller had 9 sacks with the Commanders. He had 6 sacks in 2024 with the Bills. Both seasons he was a situational pass rusher, which means he wasn't playing every down.
The most successful formula for Miller will be to come in on 3rd and 6 or longer, when the offense has to pass, and using his fresh legs to attack the quarterback.
Dallas is coming off a season where they were historically bad. Any signing is a good signing.
But to bring in Miller, who has Super Bowl experience, will help the Cowboys on and off the field.
It's a low-risk, high-reward play for Jerry Jones and he still gets to say he made a splash.
