The Pittsburgh Steelers' 2025 season ended in disappointing fashion on Monday night after Pittsburgh fell to the Houston Texans in the wild-card round of the playoffs.
This is just the latest one-and-done playoff trip for the Steelers, who still haven't won a playoff game since the 2016 season.
And that is the biggest stain on head coach Mike Tomlin's tenure right now, and it's a huge source of frustration with many Steelers fans who want to see the team make a change during the offseason.
But will the Steelers actually fire Tomlin and/or general manager Omar Khan after yet another early playoff exit?
Here's what we know.
Will Steelers fire Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan?
Last month, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the expectation is the Steelers will not fire Tomlin after this season, even with another one-and-done playoff trip.
"Nobody in the Steelers' organization nor around the NFL expects Pittsburgh to fire Tomlin; the organization hasn't fired a head coach since 1968," Schefter reported.
Another report from NFL Network's Ian Rapoport echoed the same thing about Tomlin's future, and he noted that if Tomlin isn't with the Steelers in 2026, it's because the Steelers coach decides to step away.
"As sources have explained, if Tomlin doesn't coach the Steelers in 2026, it will be because he made that decision," Rapoport reported.
When it comes to Khan, there have been zero reports casting doubt on his future in Pittsburgh. It's safe to say that he'll be back, especially if Tomlin doesn't leave.
One interesting thing to point out about Tomlin's contract is the option he has for 2027, which the Steelers might decide on by March. If declined, Tomlin would officially be in a contract year next season.
If Tomlin does stick around, we would expect that option to be picked up. It wouldn't even surprise us to see Pittsburgh extend him.
Tomlin sticking around for at least another season might not be what Steelers fans want to hear, but it currently appears to be the most likely scenario.
