The Boston Red Sox have an outfield logjam and a major hole in their infield. With a dire need for another infielder, most likely at second base, there is a chance to get creative.
Ceddane Rafaela has played second base for the Red Sox before, but with Gold Glove defense in center field, it doesn't make sense to move him off that position.
But what about Jarren Duran, who was once a second baseman? Well, according to Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic, the Red Sox's plan with Duran when it comes to moving to second base is about as clear-cut as one could ask for.
Will Red Sox play Jarren Duran at 2nd base?
"There have been questions about Duran moving back to the infield, where he began his career," McCaffrey writes, "but the Red Sox no longer view that as an option."
While moving Duran to second base could help resolve the outfield logjam and make for a very interesting storyline, the Red Sox have no such plans to make the move this offseason.
Instead of moving to the infield alongside Trevor Story, Willson Contreras, and Mayer, Duran will stay in the outfield and split time with Roman Anthony, Wilyer Abreu, and Rafaela this upcoming season.

There could be a blockbuster trade to completely reshape the lineup with one of their outfielders, but for now, it looks like there won't be any such major changes coming the Red Sox's way this offseason.
And one of those potential moves that won't happen is Duran moving back to the infield, where he started his professional career.
It's a fun hypothetical, but in reality, it's not a likely move for the Red Sox or Duran. The report from McCaffrey completely shuts down any such fun move for Duran, as Boston's front office will resolve the outfield logjam and infield hole differently.
