It was a strange week for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Jackson looked to be trending toward making his return to the field this week after a two-game absence after he was limited on Wednesday and Thursday before, at least initially, turning in a full practice on Friday.
However, we were thrown a curveball on Saturday, when the Ravens announced that Jackson was downgraded from a full practice to a limited session, and from questionable to out.
Here's the latest on Jackson, including why the Ravens made the change and if the superstar quarterback is going to return in Week 9.
Will Lamar Jackson return in Week 9?
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the current plan is for Jackson to finally make his return to the field in Week 9 against the Miami Dolphins.
"Lamar Jackson plans to return on Thursday against the Dolphins. For Sunday, Snoop Huntley gets another start," Rapoport reported.
Tyler Huntley has jumped Cooper Rush on the Ravens' depth chart and will start in Week 8.
Lamar Jackson injury report controversy explained
The reason for the change appears to simply be a result of a mistake on the Ravens' part.
The team revealed on Saturday that Jackson was a full participant in Friday's practice but because he didn't take starter's reps during the session and instead worked with the scout team, he should have been labeled as limited.
"Lamar Jackson was present and participated fully in our entire Friday practice ahead of Sunday's game against the Bears," the Ravens said in a statement.
"Upon further evaluation today and after conferring with the league office, because Lamar didn't take starter reps in practice, we updated our report to reflect his practice participation," the statement concluded.
The NFL has opened up an investigation into the matter, so we'll see if that yields anything other than Baltimore simply screwing up with its handling of the injury report.
