Elon Musk's recent comment on podcaster Matt Walsh's post has generated curiosity about the future of AI. Musk hinted that Grok will be able to detect AI-generated deepfakes in the future.
On October 9, Matt Walsh wrote on X that with the future of AI, anyone can make a video of someone they dislike out of spite. The post said:
"Within the next year or two -- probably sooner -- anyone who hates you will be able to generate any kind of defamatory video of you doing or saying something awful, and it will be so indistinguishable from a real video that you simply won't ever be able to prove that it's fake. Literally nothing is being done to prevent this from happening. We can all see it coming and our leaders are doing precisely nothing at all to stop it."Within the next year or two -- probably sooner -- anyone who hates you will be able to generate any kind of defamatory video of you doing or saying something awful, and it will be so indistinguishable from a real video that you simply won't ever be able to prove that it's fake.
On the same day, Elon Musk replied to his X post, claiming that Grok AI will soon be able to detect AI-generated deepfake videos. He added that the tool could also be able to trace the origin of such a video. He wrote:
"@Grok will be able to analyze the video for AI signatures in the bitstream and then further research the Internet to assess origin."@MattWalshBlog @grok will be able to analyze the video for AI signatures in the bitstream and then further research the Internet to assess origin
Musk and Walsh's discussion is relevant to the rapid growth of AI and its consequential rise of AI-generated fake videos. Softwares such as Grok Imagine and OpenAI's Sora can generate artificial videos, including deepfakes, many of which can be considered close to an original.
Elon Musk, however, has suggested that his company, xAI, is working to find a solution to this by enabling Grok to detect such deepfakes.
When Elon Musk claimed AI will take away all our jobs in the future

During the VivaTech 2024 Conference in Paris in May 2024, Elon Musk shared his thoughts on the rapid growth of AI. Musk is the owner of xAI, responsible for the creation of Grok. The Tesla CEO claimed that AI will soon take away employment, while speaking on the conference via a webcam.
"Probably none of us will have a job. If you want to do a job that’s kinda like a hobby, you can do a job. But otherwise, AI and the robots will provide any goods and services that you want. There would be no shortage of goods or services," Musk said. However, Elon Musk explained that for such a situation to work, there has to be "universal high income." This is different from the concept of universal basic income, which refers to the government giving a basic amount of monetary income to every citizen irrespective of their actual earnings.
Speaking further, the billionaire also addressed concerns about the emotional fulfillment of people in a world with no jobs.
"The question will really be one of meaning – if the computer and robots can do everything better than you, does your life have meaning? I do think there’s perhaps still a role for humans in this – in that we may give AI meaning," he said.In recent weeks, Elon Musk has also shared big plans about his company xAI, including the making of AI-generated video games, Grokipedia in the same design as Wikipedia, and full length films. His company has also been reportedly hiring more developers to put the plan in action.
It remains to be seen how AI changes our lives in the future, with multiple companies still struggling to interpret it and promote its usage in a way beneficial to all.
