The New York Yankees didn't keep Spencer Jones around for long.
Ahead of Friday's game, they've chosen to send him back down to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He got 24 at bats in his first taste of the big leagues.
Jones wasn't great in his opening MLB stanza. He went 4-for-24 (.167 average) with two RBI, three walks, 12 strikeouts and a stolen base.
He did notch a hit and a steal on Thursday against the Blue Jays in his final game before the demotion.
The 6-foot-7 lefty still has plenty of promise, but for the moment, he'll have to continue to focus on his development down in the minor leagues.

Why did the Yankees send down Spencer Jones?
The Yankees have a couple players coming back from injury and needed the roster spot Jones was occupying.
Both Gerrit Cole and Jose Caballero are returning to the Yanks on Friday.
Jones had been called up in the first place after a bevy of injuries hit the Yankees in short order.
The guy he directly replaced on the roster, Jasson Dominguez, isn't back yet, but there are enough other returns that Jones is surplus for right now.
It doesn't mean Jones won't be back eventually, maybe even soon. It'll help him to have seen what the major leagues are like, and that could give him a boost the next time he's called up to MLB.
But for now, the Yankees are removing one 6-foot-7 slugger from their roster.
