Sparks' Cameron Brink has had the perfect response to coach comments

Cameron Brink's season started poorly, and it didn't take long for Los Angeles Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts to implore Brink to play better.

Since then, Brink has listened. Actions speak louder than words, and Brink is finding a groove off the bench in L.A.

Across her last four games, Brink is averaging:

  • 10.0 points
  • 3.75 rebounds
  • 2.25 blocks
  • 59% FG

Cameron Brink since her head coach said, “We need Cam to produce”:

11 PTS | 5 RBS | 3 BLK | 4-6 FG
10 PTS | 3 RBS | 1 BLK | 3-6 FG
7 PTS | 2 RBS | 2 BLK | 3-4 FG
12 PTS | 5 RBS | 3 BLK | 3-6 FG

The Sparks will likely want to keep upping Brink's workload if she keeps this up, and that will call into question one of her major flaws: foul trouble. Brink has a tough time staying on the court, which is fascinating for such a skilled shot blocker. When she gets the timing right, it's great, but she doesn't always get it right.

Still, this is a positive development no matter how you slice it. The Sparks will still be hoping Brink can be a key part of their future, and an ability to respond to struggle is a key trait for any player.

Brink has a skillset that not many WNBA players have, and while she's still got a long way to go to fully maximize it, she's taken a step in the right direction in these recent games.
