Why Vladimir Guerrero Jr. isn't playing tonight for Blue Jays after lineup decision

The Toronto Blue Jays' lineup looks different on Tuesday night.

For the first time all season, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. isn't starting.

The good news for the Blue Jays is that nothing major is going on here.

The slightly bad news is that Vladdy still hasn't found his power stroke, but maybe the night off will help.

Why isn't Vladdy playing tonight?

Guerrero isn't out of the lineup due to injury but rather by design.

According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, this was the plan:

Just a planned day off for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. for the #BlueJays today

Guerrero is just 3 for his last 17, so this is a chance for him to refresh and recharge in hopes of getting going a little bit.

Vladdy is hitting .331 this season, but his slugging percentage is only a bit higher, at .431. Of his 43 hits, seven have been doubles and two have been home runs. That's a lot lower rate than he normally has had in his career.

Guerrero isn't hurt, so there's always a chance he enters Tuesday night's game at some point. If not, he'll have the chance to get right back in there Wednesday to start heating up as the weather outside gets warmed up, too.
