Why Timberwolves, Bulls and Nets pulled off 3-team trade involving Julius Randle and Nic Claxton

A trade has gone down in the NBA world on Monday, and no, it isn't Giannis Antetokounmpo.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, the Minnesota Timberwolves are trading former All-Star forward Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team deal that also has center Nick Claxton heading from Brooklyn to the Chicago Bulls.

"Just in: Minnesota is sending Julius Randle and the No. 28 pick in the NBA Draft to the Brooklyn Nets in a three-team trade that sends Nic Claxton to the Chicago Bulls, sources tell ESPN. The Timberwolves will acquire Brooklyn’s No. 33 pick for Randle and No. 28," Charania wrote on X.

Why Timberwolves, Bulls and Nets pulled off 3-team trade

Randle was abysmal during Minnesota's playoff run, and it was clear the team needed to move on from the veteran and retool the roster a bit around franchise superstar Anthony Edwards.

The Timberwolves have done just that, as they ship off Randle and his $100 million contract to the Nets for extra cap space to re-sign their free agents, including rising guard Ayo Dosunmu.

As for the Bulls landing Claxton, they needed an upgrade at center, and they're going to get it. Claxton is a double-double threat on any given night and will provide elite rim protection for Billy Donovan's squad.

Lastly, this trade allows Brooklyn to move back into the first round from pick 33 and add another young piece to their rebuilding team.

Overall, this trade makes a ton of sense for all three parties involved. We'll see what others are made as the draft is under 24 hours away.
