Taylor Swift Addresses Joe Alwyn, Matty Healy Breakups in Rare Comment
Don't blame Taylor Swift for switching out this Eras Tour look.
The singer revealed that debuting a black and gold bodysuit for the Reputation set over a year and a half into the Eras Tour wasn't as calculated as fans initially thought.
"The original catsuit was made from a different fabric," Taylor's stylist Joseph Cassel revealed in the third episode of her End of an Era Disney+ docuseries Dec. 19. "That was all the fabric there was in the world. So we had to recreate the fabric for the second one and for this one."
While for other Eras, Taylor regularly alternated looks, for Reputation, the original red and black bodysuit had been the one and only.
And so, Taylor and her stylist were excited to surprise the fans, with Joseph noting, "People are going to lose their minds.”
But although the fashion switch up was a necessity due to wear and tear, it seemed to be a hassle to get refitted for a new outfit so far into the tour.
"It's just really annoying, and I have to do athletic s--t in this," Taylor explained after trying it on and having parts of it not fit her correctly. "I gotta see if this can even happen because they put my boob cups on my rib cage... It’s not that beautiful the way it fits me now."
So, when the alterations were made and it fit like a glove, it was a major relief.
"It fits," she emphasized after trying it on ahead of her Miami show "It's perfect. Nothing is going to pop out.”
Despite Taylor’s incidental need for a new costume, fans had hoped it might be an Easter egg for Taylor releasing a rerecorded version of the album when she stepped out wearing it in Miami for the first time
However, Taylor later admitted after the Eras Tour had ended that she hadn’t recorded even “a quarter” of her Taylor’s Version of Reputation before purchasing her master recordings.
"To be perfectly honest, it’s the one album in those first 6 that I thought couldn’t be improved upon by redoing it. Not the music, or photos, or videos. So I kept putting it off,” she wrote in a letter to fans in May. "There will be a time (if you’re into the idea) for the unreleased Vault tracks from that album to hatch.”
While the third episode shared insight into what goes into costuming for the tour, the fourth episode went deeper as Taylor delved into what it was like experiencing two breakups on the tour—the first with longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn and the second being her shorter relationship with Matty Healy.
“I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour,” Taylor admitted. “That’s a lot of breakups, actually. This show is what gave me purpose and what I could use to get me out of bed. The tour has never been the hard thing in my life. The tour has been the thing that allowed me to find purpose outside of the s--t that was going on in my life.”
As she put it, “Men will let you down, the Eras Tour never will.”

However, Taylor has found one man who hasn't let her down. She began dating Travis Kelce in 2023, and another revelation from the fourth episode of the docuseries is that mom Andrea Swift is the one who made it happen.
“I was looking at the headlines, perusing around what’s on the internet, I see that this guy came to your show and he brought a friendship bracelet and wants to meet you," Andrea explained, retelling the story alongside Taylor. "I called up my resident expert on the Kansas City Chiefs, my cousin Robin and I go, ‘Tell me about this guy Travis Kelce,’” Andrea continued. “She goes, ‘Oh my gosh! He’s the nicest guy, and you know what? He really loves his mom.’ I went, ‘Ding, ding, ding.’”
So, while Taylor was initially skeptical of meeting an athlete thinking they'd have nothing in common, she noted that following her breakups, her mom finally had her convinced. She recalled to Andrea, “You said something to the effect of, ‘You’ve got to start doing something different.’”
Now, the rest is history. As Taylor put it, “Greatest surprise of my life.”
