Why Steelers drafted RB Kaleb Johnson over QB Shedeur Sanders, and the Aaron Rodgers hint it gives

The Pittsburgh Steelers could've drafted Shedeur Sanders at No. 83 overall in the NFL Draft, a slide no one saw coming.

But still, they passed.

Instead, they chose Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson.

Johnson was one of the best running backs in the country in 2024.

He ran for 1,537 yards (6.4 ypc) with 21 touchdowns. He also caught 22 passes for 188 yards.

It was a huge rise for Johnson, who was a three-star recruit at Hamilton (Ohio) High School.

The 6-foot-1, 224-pound Johnson adds a bigger bruiser to replace Najee Harris in the Pittsburgh backfield partnership with Jaylen Warren.

It's a solid pick, for sure.

It also hints that the Steelers are indeed going to wind up with Aaron Rodgers.

It seems like there's no way they would've passed on QB again if they thought Rodgers wasn't showing up.

They've only got Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson right now.

Johnson is coming, and Rodgers seems likely to follow soon.

And at this rate, maybe Sanders will still be on the board later on. It'd fit the craziness of what has transpired so far.
