Only about two years ago, Adolis Garcia was a superhero.
He carried the Texas Rangers to the World Series. He won ALCS MVP honors. Texas celebrated with a parade, and Garcia was one of the Rangers' leaders.
On Friday, Garcia's time with the Rangers ended.
Texas chose not to tender Garcia a contract for his final arbitration year.
He'll head to free agency instead.
Why did the Rangers release Adolis Garcia?
Garcia's downfall was swift from his ALCS MVP honors.
The two-time All Star batted just .224 in 2024 with a .684 OPS.
His OPS fell to .665 in 2025 with a .227 average and .271 on-base percentage.
He combined for 44 home runs and 55 doubles over the past two seasons, but when Garcia wasn't running into one, he struggled mightily.
He struck out more than four times as much as he walked, and his defense declined.
Texas decided Garcia's final arbitration salary, which likely would've been inflated by his salary stats, was too much.
He was worth 2.7 Wins Above Replacement in 2025, though, when the whole package was added together (after 0.3 WAR in 2024), so it's still a bit of a curious decision.
