Why Raiders traded away Jakobi Meyers, and what they got in return

The Las Vegas Raiders were sellers at Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.

They had an obvious candidate to ship out, and they did so. Star wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is no longer in Vegas. He's now a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Raiders will play their first game without Meyers quickly, as they take the field on Thursday Night Football in Week 10 to face the Denver Broncos.

The receiving corps without Meyers will be interesting. Tre Tucker leads a group that also includes Tyler Lockett, Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton. There may be even more targets than usual for tight end Brock Bowers.

Meyers will play Sunday for the 5-3 Jags against the Houston Texans.

Why did the Raiders trade Jakobi Meyers?

The Raiders traded Jakobi Meyers because of his contract, a trade request and their season.

Vegas has no real hopes of the playoffs, so it made sense to sell.

Meyers is in the last year of his contract, so he was logical to ship out to get value for before he hits free agency.

And in the summer, Meyers requested a trade. This was delayed, but it moved on a player who clearly didn't mind getting shipped out.

What did the Raiders get for Jakobi Meyers trade?

The Raiders got two draft picks from the Jaguars in return for Jakobi Meyers.

The picks were a fourth-rounder and a sixth-rounder.

Meyers felt worth it for Jacksonville with Travis Hunter out injured, while the Raiders at least get something for their pending free agent.
