After 45 wins on the PGA Tour, including six major championships, Phil Mickelson has become a household name in the golf world. However, after being unable to play in this year's Masters Tournament and multiple LIV events, the left-handed golfer has now withdrawn from the upcoming PGA Championship.

Mickelson cited a "personal health matter" in his family as the reason for his previous withdrawals, and that is most likely the case again for the PGA Championship.

Max Homa has been announced as Mickelson's replacement at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, Pa.

Here's why Lefty is missing another golf event and how he has previously fared at PGA Championships.

"I wish I could. I can’t unfortunately," Mickelson told Flushing It. "I’m hoping to play the rest of the year after that but I honestly don’t know."

While Mickelson hasn't officially released a statement with a specific reason on his own social media pages, Mickelson has withdrawn from recent golf events this season due to a personal health matter within his family.

Max Homa will replace Mickelson at Aronimink Golf Club when the major begins on May 14.

Has Phil Mickelson won a PGA Championship?

Yes, Mickelson has won two PGA Championships in his career.

Lefty’s first came in 2005 at Baltusrol Golf Club’s Lower Course in Springfield, N.J. On the 18th hole, Mickelson hit a flop shot for the ages after escaping a bunker. With Steve Elkington and Thomas Bjorn right on his heels at three-under, Mickelson stayed calm under greenside pressure and hit a shot that set up a putt from just a couple of feet away. He finished one stroke ahead of Elkington and Bjorn to hoist his first Wanamaker Trophy.

In 2021, Mickelson made history with his second PGA Championship win. At Kiawah Island Golf Resort in South Carolina, Mickelson became the oldest major championship winner in history at the age of 50 years, 11 months, and 7 days. During the final round of play at Kiawah, Mickelson holed out from a bunker chip shot to take a two-stroke lead. He went on to win the tournament at 6-under over Louis Oosthuizen and Brooks Koepka (4-under).
