The Edmonton Oilers development camp is taking place this week, and they'll have three of the top talents in women's hockey on the ice with them.
It's the first time that female players will be part of an NHL development camp. The Oilers named the invites as part of their camp roster on Monday: Abbey Murphy, Caitlin Kraemer and Chloe Primerano.
They're three big-time names, and while they don't come to camp with an expectation of making the NHL roster, it's still a notable setup for Murphy, Kraemer and Primerano.
Why are the Oilers bringing 3 women to development camp?
Edmonton hasn't given an official reason.
They noted the three women's players in their press release, simply naming who they are and not offering any additional explanation.
For the women, it's a chance to get on the ice against NHL talent, which is a great chance to grow their games.
For the men around them, they'll get to see how three of the most successful athletes in their sport operate.
It's a good opportunity all around, even if it is thinking a bit outside the box.
