Why Norman Powell isn't playing tonight vs. Spurs, injury update

The Miami Heat have officially listed Norman Powell as out for tonight’s matchup against the San Antonio Spurs due to right groin soreness. Powell also missed the team’s 144–117 blowout win over the Charlotte Hornets and will now sit out a second consecutive game. The injury occurred during the team’s morning shootaround on October 29, 2025.

Powell has a relatively light history of groin injuries, with this marking only the third time in his career he’s been sidelined by one. The last occurrence came on November 23, 2023.

Since joining the Heat, Powell has proven to be a key addition to the roster after being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers in a three-team trade that also included the Utah Jazz. The veteran guard was the centerpiece of that deal, coming off a season in which he averaged 21.8 points on 48.7% shooting. Through three games with Miami, Powell is averaging 24.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2.0 steals.

Miami will once again be without both Powell and Tyler Herro, who continues to rehab from left foot surgery he underwent prior to the start of the regular season. Bam Adebayo has continued to anchor the team, averaging 21.0 points and 9.0 rebounds, while Miami’s balanced offense features seven players averaging double figures, the most of any team in the league.

Powell’s absence hasn’t slowed the Heat so far, but tonight presents a tougher test against a 4–0 San Antonio Spurs squad led by Victor Wembanyama, who’s averaging 31.0 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.

Powell’s next opportunity to return will be on November 2 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
