Why NFL All-Pro history says Lamar Jackson will win third MVP over Josh Allen

2 hours ago 1

Lamar Jackson should like his odds at winning his third NFL MVP.

The Ravens quarterback enjoyed another sensational season, throwing for 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns, and just four interceptions in the regular season. He also added another 915 rushing yards with four scores on the ground, putting together an even better campaign than last year when he took home his second MVP.

If there is anyone that is going to take the MVP from Jackson, it's Bills star Josh Allen. The Buffalo stud has never taken home the honor, but he is viewed to be neck and neck with Jackson for the honor.

If history tells us anything, it's that the MVP most likely is going Jackson's way. The Baltimore star earned First-Team All-Pro honors for the QB position over Allen, and considering the same group votes for the MVP, it's a good sign that Jackson has MVP No. 3 coming his way.

Here's more to know about the history of NFL QBs to receive All-Pro and MVP recognitions.

NFL All-Pro QB wins MVP history

History has dictated that, for the most part, if a quarterback wins MVP, he also earns First-Team All-Pro. However, there are exceptions.

In 1987, 49ers QB Joe Montana earned First-Team All-Pro honors; however, he was not the recipient of the MVP. That award went to Broncos QB John Elway, who finished as the Second-Team All-Pro.

Montana's MVP case was hurt by the fact that his teammate, WR Jerry Rice, also earned votes. As a result, Elway received 42.9% of the nods, while Rice had 35.7% and Montana had 21.4%.

Last time NFL All-Pro QB didn't win MVP

The last time an NFL All-Pro QB didn't win MVP was during the 2012 season when Adrian Peterson won his first and only NFL MVP honor, topping Peyton Manning.

Peterson received 61% of the votes after a 2,000-yard season with the Vikings, while Manning got just 39% in his first season as a member of the Broncos.
