This is one of the weirdest plays you'll ever see.
Josh Naylor was on first base for the Seattle Mariners with one out in the top of the first.
A grounder to the left side went to Toronto Blue Jays' infielder Ernie Clement, who stepped on second base for the first out of the sequence.
Then he wound up a throw to first, but it deflected off Naylor's head and bounded away, so there was no chance at a double play.
Initially, no second out was called on the field.
All six umpires joined together for a huddle to discuss it.
While they talked, replays on the Fox broadcast showed that not only had Naylor not gotten out of the way: He had jumped.

— Ben Verlander (@BenVerlander) October 21, 2025Why was Josh Naylor out for interference?
Naylor was out specifically because he jumped.
If the runner stays in the baseline in a normal posture, it's on the fielder to avoid the runner with the throw.
But the jump made it an unnatural position.
Because of that, Naylor was out.
And it went from one out to a key double play.
The Blue Jays gave up a run before that, but this call allowed them to escape without more damage.
