The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be taking their sweet time to find their next head coach.
Craig Berube is long gone, but the Leafs' interview timeline hasn't exactly moved quickly.
In fact, they've got two new candidates reportedly entering the picture: Patrick Roy and Peter Laviolette.
This is what TSN's Darren Dreger reported on Wednesday morning:
The Toronto Maple Leafs coaching search is getting more interesting. Sources say Patrick Roy and Peter Laviolette are a part of this weeks stage of the interview process.
— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) June 3, 2026It's obviously a crucial hire for the new front office leadership group of John Chayka and Mats Sundin.

Why is it taking so long?
The Maple Leafs appear to have cast a wide net.
Reports have come out bit by bit, but their candidate list seems to be double digits, at least initially.
There was also some suggestion that the Maple Leafs wouldn't wrap things up until after the NHL Draft Combine -- they had a bunch of initial conversations but aren't expected to dig fully into final interviews until after the combine.
That all seems fine, and other NHL teams aren't exactly flying through the hiring process, either.
The Maple Leafs have to get this hire right, and rather than rushing it, they're being patient. There could come a point of being too deliberate with it, but right now, Toronto is just focused on the process.
