Why Jorvorskie Lane Jr. wasn't drafted into MLB despite son of NFL RB having immense physical tools

One of the more intriguingly recognizable names in the 2026 MLB Draft pool was Jorvorskie Lane Jr.

That's because his dad was a bruising collegiate running back who went on to play in the NFL.

Lane Jr. brings a lot of those physical tools to the baseball diamond, and early in his high school career, he was a high-profile prospect.

This weekend, though, Lane Jr. wasn't drafted at all.

Why wasn't Jorvorskie Lane Jr. drafted?

There are likely two factors at play: recent form, and college commitment.

For one, Lane Jr. is committed to Arkansas, and that commitment may be quite firm. MLB teams usually have a good idea of who wouldn't back out of their commitment to sign professionally, and when standout high school players aren't drafted at all, that means they normally fit that bill.

Lane Jr. also hasn't been as consistent as a player in the latter stages of his high school career.

"He projected as a first-round pick and drew Andrew McCutchen comps earlier in his high school career, though struggles during the summer and his senior season have dropped his stock," MLB.com wrote in its pre-draft blurb.

A college career might be exactly what Lane Jr. needs. He can add some fundamental polishing on top of his immense physical tools.

In a few years, Lane Jr. will be draft-eligible again, and that time, he very well could be picked, and potentially in a strong slot on the board.
