Why JoJo Siwa Says She's Hannah Montana
JoJo Siwa takes it slow before she rocks out the show.
The Dance Moms alum shared that when she’s off duty, she’s living a life that “no one knows about”—just like her childhood inspiration Hannah Montana.
“When I was younger, I always looked the same,” JoJo exclusively told E! News’ The Rundown host Erin Lim Rhodes while on the red carpet at the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special March 23. “I always had a side ponytail and bow. But like if I was to go out in public I would never dress like this, never even do this much hair and makeup.”
“So, no one necessarily spots me,” she added. “But if I go like this, it’s a trap.”
Recently, JoJo, who donned a bedazzled oversized jersey and orange sneakers for the Hannah Montana outing, rewore some of her most memorable outfits in her “I’m Still Dancin’” music video. As for which of her many sides JoJo’s boyfriend Chris Hughes prefers?
“I think he likes who I am now,” JoJo said. “I would imagine.”
While the former Nickelodeon star noted how she’s just an ordinary girl in her free time, she shared that the hit Disney channel show inspired her career “more than you could even imagine.”
“Every writing session as a kid I used Hannah Montana as inspiration,” she said. “So, my song ‘High Top Shoes’ from when I was a kid was directly inspired by ‘Old Blue Jeans.’ ‘Everyday Popstars’ was inspired by ‘Rockstar.’”

And JoJo’s musical success is no accident. After all, she revealed that she and Miley Cyrus share the same songwriting team.
The Celebrity Big Brother UK alum added, “We have a lot of the same writers so the woman who wrote ‘Rockstar,’ ‘True Friend,’ and tons of great Hannah songs wrote tons of my songs,” including JoJo’s upcoming single “Serendipity.”
While being famous can be kind of fun, the best perk by far was when JoJo met her childhood hero Miley ahead of the Disney show’s 20th anniversary special, releasing on Hulu and Disney+ March 24.
“I don’t hold back fangirling,” she admitted of her interaction with Miley “Like, I don’t care. I want you to know I’m obsessed with you.”
She added, “I will never play it cool with you.”
