Why is Jimmy Butler III on back of jersey?

Jimmy Butler is, as you'd expect, paying homage to the men that came before him.

Butler's father died about a year ago, and it's Butler's way of paying tribute.

It's a reminder for Butler that he is his father's son.

Butler's father was Jimmy Butler Jr.

"Because I am the third and it's actually a year ago today of the passing of my father," Butler told reporters in February. "So this was big for me to change it and realize that I am his son. So I'm very grateful and that's why I'm Butler III now."

When did Jimmy Butler join the Warriors?

Jimmy Butler came to the Warriors on Feb. 7 in a trade from the Miami Heat.

Butler had wanted out of Miami and was suspended multiple times for his behavior before the Heat eventually moved him.

The Warriors got Butler to try and turn themselves into NBA title contenders, and with him, they went from sub-.500 to one of the best teams in the Western Conference.
