Why Jets should turn to NFL draft to land their new No. 2 WR

This offseason, the New York Jets have made a lot of big additions to the roster, with the main focus being on the defensive side of the ball.

With how poorly the defense played last year, it's not a surprise that Aaron Glenn's Jets focused on that side of the ball in free agency and in the trade market. But that doesn't mean the offense doesn't need help.

After two weeks of the NFL offseason, the Jets have a very clear need for a new number two wide receiver. While they could land a WR in a trade or free agency, as Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox notes, the Jets' best option for a WR is in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Jets' best option to land a new No. 2 WR is in NFL Draft

"At this point in the offseason, the best option for many teams (to land a new WR) will be to focus on next month's draft," Knox writes.

The Jets need to add a new wide receiver to the roster to make Adonai Mitchell the number three WR and give Garrett Wilson a true number two option.

After two weeks of the NFL offseason, while there are some free agent WR options like Stefon Diggs, Tyreek Hill, and Jauan Jennings, the Jets' best option for wide receiver help is in the NFL Draft.

This year's wide receiver class is not a bad one either, as the Jets could turn to Carnell Tate out of Ohio State, Makai Lemon out of USC, or Jordyn Tyson out of Arizona State with one of their first-round picks.

Indiana's Omar Cooper Jr. is also a first-round caliber WR, and should be available at 16th overall, unlike Tyson, Lemon, and Tate, who've all been linked to teams ahead of the Jets. Cooper's highest spot might be the Jets' second first-round pick.

Later in the draft, with the Jets' two second-round picks at 33rd and 44th overall, there are plenty of fascinating options to consider.

Washington's Denzel Boston, Texas A&M's KC Concepcion, Louisville's Chris Bell, Alabama's Germie Bernard, and Tennessee's Chris Brazzell II are all possible options in round two for the Jets.

Then, if the Jets decide to wait even longer for WR help, some interesting options could make it down the board like Skyler Bell, Bryce Lance, Antonio Williams, Elijah Sarratt, Deion Burks, Zachariah Branch, Ted Hurts, Malachi Fields, and De'Zhaun Stribling.

The Jets need to add a wide receiver this offseason, and at this point in the offseason, as Knox notes, their best option is likely the NFL Draft.

Since they don't need to splurge on a top option to be an instant-impact starter like the Denver Broncos did for Jaylen Waddle, the Jets can take a developmental option in the draft.

With four picks inside the top 44 picks of the NFL Draft, the Jets should have no problem landing someone at one of those draft picks. Whether it's at 16th, 33rd, or 44th overall, there should be a WR or two available worthy of that draft slot.
