Mac McClung might be more well-known than many NBA players thanks to his Slam Dunk Contest success, and he now has another accolade to his name.
The 27-year-old became the G League's all-time leading scorer on Tuesday night with a brilliant 59-point performance for the Windy City Bulls. The record includes the regular season, playoffs and tip-off tournament.

Here's a look at McClung's place among the all-time great G League scorers and why he still isn't in the NBA.

G League all-time leading scorers
McClung broke the record held by Renaldo Major for most points between the regular season, playoffs and Tip-Off Tournament, passing Major's 5,299 points and taking the all-time lead with 5,300.
McClung still ranks only 14th all-time in regular-season points, but he has 285 points in the playoffs and 1,168 points in the league's Tip-Off Tournament, which accounts for 57 career games.
Major remains the all-time leading regular season scorer with 5,058 points, but he played before the Tip-Off Tournament became part of a typical G League season.
Why is Mac McClung not in the NBA?
McClung has had a hard time finding NBA opportunities despite his success at the G League level, appearing in only 10 games for a total of 123 minutes across five seasons of professional basketball.
McClung is a pure scorer in an era in which there is no shortage of players who can score efficiently in the NBA. Because he doesn't bring much else to the table beyond scoring, McClung is limited in the value he can provide an NBA team. He isn't a strong defender, with his 6-2, 185-pound frame certainly not helping, and he hasn't proven he can be very effective when the ball isn't in his hands.
McClung could provide a scoring boost off the bench, but with so much scoring to go around and little else for the G League guard to offer, teams instead give roster spots to more versatile players.

Mac McClung G League salary
McClung's G League salary at the start of the season is unknown, but his contract was converted to a two-way deal by the Bulls in early February.
Two-way contracts are worth half of the NBA's rookie minimum salary, so a player can make $636,435 on a two-way deal, but McClung is making $245,064, according to Spotrac, because he didn't have his deal converted until more than halfway through the season.
How old is Mac McClung?
McClung is 27 years old; he turned 27 in early January.
Still young enough to continue improving, McClung hasn't given up on one day carving out a role for himself in the NBA. He went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2021 but has yet to stick with one franchise, spending time in the Bulls, Pacers, Magic, 76ers and Lakers organizations.
