The San Francisco Giants are a team that's trending towards the MLB trade deadline as clear sellers. But, while Luis Arraez and Robbie Ray are obvious trade candidates, the question for the Giants is how far they go in their fire sale.
But, with ESPN's Buster Olney reporting they're open to trade calls on Rafael Devers, Willy Adames, and Matt Chapman, the Giants are clearly open to a complete fire sale this summer by the August 3 trade deadline.
Regarding Devers specifically, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes the Giants are "eager" to trade away Devers this season. The reason why is clear: getting out of Devers' massive contract would be a huge win.
Why Giants might be 'eager' to trade away Rafael Devers
"Given the way Bryce Eldridge has been thriving at the dish in recent weeks, Devers' contract would figure to be one they'd be most eager to unload," Miller writes.
Bryce Eldridge has been on a tear lately. Ever since he's been in the everyday lineup, over the last 21 games, he has a .389 batting average with a 1.143 OPS with four homers and 12 RBIs for the Giants.
In that same span, Devers is hitting .211 with a .730 OPS and three homers with 13 RBIs. But, it's not just that Edlridge has been better; it's that he's been better at a much cheaper cost.
Devers, acquired from the Boston Red Sox over a year ago, is in the middle of a 10-year, $313.5 million contract. The Giants are spending a ton of money on Devers.
If he were hitting as he did with the Red Sox, with a .859 OPS across parts of nine seasons, then this huge contract would make a little bit more sense. But Devers is hitting .235 with a .706 OPS this season for the Giants.

Giants have one issue with potential Rafael Devers trade
For someone who's not a good fielder, nor a good base runner, to be making this much money while posting barely above-average offense with a 101 OPS+, it's understandable why the Giants might be eager to trade such a player.
But, while the Giants might be "eager" to trade Devers, there is one major issue: there might not be any interested suitors this season in a deal willing to take on his contract, which would be a huge reason for this trade.
There aren't many teams that would be willing to take on such a contract for someone who is seemingly regressing and so expensive.
As much as the Giants might want to trade Devers, as evidenced by the report that they're open to offers on him along with Adames and Chapman, a trade isn't very likely.
