As with any practice, however, there are exceptions to the rule. In the Biergärten (beer gardens) in southern Germany, where the standard drink is a one-litre mug of beer, rounds are more common. In fact, it is in the country's more traditional areas, including Bavaria, that you are more likely to see friends buying drinks for each other.
