Erling Haaland is one of the most recognizable players in world football.
His blonde hair, usually in a ponytail, stands out at the top of his tall, sturdy frame -- and then he goes and scores a ton of goals, both for Manchester City and Norway.
Now at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Haaland will catch fans' eyes for one extra reason -- there's an additional surname on the back of his shirt.
His No. 9 kit for Norway includes the words Braut Haaland on the back of it.

Why does Erling Haaland have 'Braut Haaland' on his Norway shirt?
Haaland is paying homage to both of his parents with those names.
The Haaland last name belonged to his dad, Alf-Inge Haaland. He was a midfielder for Manchester City.
His mother was Gry Marita Braut, who was a heptathle for Norway.
The striker Haaland started doing this in August 2025, a relatively recent change.
According to Goal, Norway often uses both names as part of official identities.

Haaland has always included the Braut Haaland name on his social media accounts, but in playing both at Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City, he has had just Haaland on the back of his shirt.
Goal added in its explanation that Norway fans have even called Haaland the nickname "Brauten," a nod to his maternal surname.
At the World Cup, he'll be hoping to make his whole family proud.
