Why Dolphins' Tyreek Hill is still a free agent amid Chiefs rumors

It's not long ago that Tyreek Hill would've been a prized NFL free agent.

Instead, this offseason, the Miami Dolphins' discarded WR remains available as the calendar heads toward June. Even amid rumors of a reunion with the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill is unsigned.

It's not totally shocking, of course, particularly to those who followed the Dolphins closely over the past couple seasons.

But from name value alone, it still has Hill among a few other big name wideouts still looking for a job, like Stefon Diggs and Deebo Samuel.

Veterans at this point don't often rush their free agency, but there's even more working against Hill than the others.

Why is Tyreek Hill still a free agent?

Hill is coming off a nasty injury, and he's dealing with some off-field trouble.

In Week 4 of the 2025 season, Hill dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments. That raised questions about his future, particularly as a smaller receiver who relies so much on his speed.

He had already seen a decline in on-the-field performance, too.

"His production declined dramatically in 2024 from what had been league-best efficiency in 2022 and 2023. Things then took a further turn south when Hill dislocated his left knee and tore multiple ligaments in Week 4, ending his season," ESPN's Bill Barnwell wrote earlier this offseason. "Hill was also accused of domestic violence by his estranged wife, opening the wideout up to potential league discipline."

When you add it all up, it's tough for any team to make a big commitment to Hill right now.

He'll likely have to somehow prove that he's relatively healthy before he gets a contract from anyone at this point.
