Riley Greene dominated as a high school baseball player in Florida. And after hitting .422 as a senior, he was committed to play college baseball for the University of Florida.
However, Greene was one of the top prospects ahead of the 2019 MLB Draft. And instead of going to be a Florida Gator, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers as the fifth overall pick.
After getting drafted, it would not take him long to work his way through the minors, making his MLB debut in June during the 2022 season, and he has not looked back.

Tigers' slugging outfielder tagged as team's 'most untouchable' trade asset
Since making his debut during the 2022 season, he has been named a two-time All-Star and has been good for at least 24 home runs over the last two seasons.
He has been a cornerstone piece for the offense, and he has been good on defense as well. With this, and some other things already been taken care of, Bleacher Report's Joel Retuer points to Greene as Detroit's "most untouchable" trade asset.
"Since rookie phenom Kevin McGonigle is already locked up, the focus shifts to a more established star. After a 36-homer, 111-RBI season last year, Greene is hitting .320/.410/.473 for a 149 OPS+ through 195 plate appearances this season. Even with some likely regression, he is the most important run producer in the middle of their lineup and just now in his first year of arbitration."
As McGonigle is already locked up for eight years, it's about surrounding him with other star players. This is where Greene comes in. He is too important for this team to just get rid of, especially in an American League Central division that seems to be pretty open at this point in the season.
