Why did the Yankees option Anthony Volpe? Insider reveals reason for New York’s decision on young shortstop

There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of questions about why the New York Yankees decided to move on from Anthony Volpe in the short term, optioning him to Triple-A.

It didn't seem like that was in the works a few days ago, but the Yankees decided to make a decision that might have been a difficult one to make from their perspective just a few years ago.

Instead of worrying about the wrong decisions the Yankees have made with Volpe in the past, they're seemingly making the right ones now, and according to the latest, a lot of it has to do with how well the team has played.

“This might be a difficult decision for the Yankees to make, considering how they positioned Volpe as a long-term building block. But they have the best record in the American League, and Caballero has been an important piece of the team that they can’t just take out of the equation to accommodate Volpe,” Chris Kirschner of The Athletic wrote.

There have been moments throughout the season when the Yankees don't exactly look great on either side of the baseball, but as a whole, this season has gone pretty well.

Currently sitting in first place in the American League East, as well as owning the best record in the American League and the second-best in baseball, there's really no reason to mess with that at the most important position on the defensive side of the baseball.

Volpe will have to get to work if he wants to come back up, but the more the Yankees win and the more that Caballero keeps playing well, the less chance of this happening.
