Why Cowboys, Nick Chubb free agent signing idea from Dallas legend might actually work

The Dallas Cowboys have taken an odd approach to solving their running back problems.

They signed underwhelming veterans Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams in free agency. Then they drafted Jaydon Blue (Texas) and Phil Mafah (Clemson).

On the one hand, they may not have room for another RB. But on the other, it's not clear yet whether they have their solution.

Cowboys WR legend Dez Bryant shared highlights of Nick Chubb on X while tagging the Cowboys' social media team. He may want them to give Chubb a whirl.

Chubb is a Browns legend but has lingered in free agency.

The reason is clear: He wasn't good in 2024 after a serious knee injury in 2023.

Chubb averaged a career-worst 3.3 yards per carry in Cleveland last season.

He could still make sense for Dallas, though.

For one, he'll be cheap. After this long in free agency, he'll likely just want a home.

The Cowboys will also be able to keep Chubb fresh and just use him in key spots and near the goal line. RB depth isn't the issue for Dallas.

Chubb is also a big name, certainly not something that Jerry Jones would shy away from.

He might be overkill given the other additions, but Dallas owes it to itself to take as many swings as it can to find a true top running back.

Chubb could be over the hill, but if he's not, the Cowboys could get a talented player as an absolute bargain.
