The Indianapolis Colts and Green Bay Packers agreed on a trade on Saturday involving linebacker Zaire Franklin.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Colts are trading Franklin to the Packers for defensive tackle Colby Wooden.
"ESPN sources: The Colts are trading former Pro Bowl LB Zaire Franklin to the Green Bay Packers," Schefter said.
"Trade terms: Colts receive DT Colby Wooden, Packers receive LB Zaire Franklin," Schefter added.
Why Colts, Packers pulled off trade involving Zaire Franklin
Indianapolis has been looking to trade Franklin over the last few days due to their dire cap situation. Before trading Franklin, the Colts were $4 million under the cap, but they saved $5 million by moving on from the veteran linebacker, so they should be above the cap now.
As for the Packers, the team needs help at linebacker, especially with Quay Walker set to hit free agency. Franklin will step in as a starter for Green Bay with 88 games of starting experience under his belt, and hopefully stabilize the position group for Matt LaFleur's squad.
In the trade, Indianapolis also acquired Wooden, who should help their defensive tackle depth.
