Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumor is bad news for Lakers, Warriors, good news for Knicks

Even though the 2025-26 trade season ended last month, speculation surrounding Giannis Antetokounmpo’s future with the Milwaukee Bucks continues to dominate the headlines.

The 31-year-old superstar will be trade-eligible again in the offseason, giving contenders another opportunity to pry him away from Milwaukee and give themselves a massive boost entering the 2026-27 campaign.

While a recent Antetokounmpo trade rumor isn’t ideal news for the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors, it should be music to the New York Knicks’ ears.

“Rumors can be fun, but also destructive," Bleacher Report's Eric Pincus wrote Tuesday. "NBA culture is built around a certain level of gossip. Take it for that, knowing that such items aren't coming from the first-hand source, in this case, Antetokounmpo.”

“That said, there's some buzz in the NBA that Antetokounmpo prefers the East Coast, which is closer to Greece (both by flight and, perhaps more importantly, time zone).”

Considering the Knicks are located on the East Coast, there’s no question the Knicks would have an advantage over West Coast franchises like the Warriors and Lakers. Of course, a championship would make it less likely for the Knicks to pursue Antetokounmpo this summer.

However, failing to build on their remarkable 2024-25 campaign (they reached the Eastern Conference finals) and finally get over the hump could motivate New York to bring the two-time MVP on board in the offseason.

When Antetokounmpo wants to power his way to the rim, there isn’t much that defenders can do to prevent the NBA champion forward from getting two feet into the paint. Antetokounmpo has mastered the art of spinning off defenders who use all their body weight to contain him and finishing well above the rim.

The former first-round pick’s quick reflexes, impeccable timing, and 7-foot-3 wingspan allow him to dominate on the defensive end as well.

Antetokounmpo, who’s battled several injuries this season, is averaging 27.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 0.9 steals per game with the Bucks this season, shooting 63.7% from the field in 32 contests.

Needless to say, Antetokounmpo would be a revelation for Jalen Brunson and the Knicks if they decide he’s the asset they need to help their title dreams come to life.
