The rumors came out late in NFL Draft week, the kind that seem important but also are hard to make sense of.
The reports were saying that Carson Beck, the Georgia-turned-Miami QB, could find his way into the first round on Thursday night.
Well, the first round came and went, and Beck was still waiting -- which had been the expectation most of the way.
Indiana's Fernando Mendoza went No. 1 overall to the Raiders, as expected. The Rams surprised people by taking Alabama's Ty Simpson 13th.

And that was it for the quarterbacks picked.
Beck will get drafted eventually, but in the end, those rumors didn't mean much.

Why didn't Carson Beck get drafted in 1st round?
The reality is that Beck doesn't have enough QB talent to have been a first-round pick.
"He operates primarily as a pocket passer and has strong field vision, although he lacks the high-end arm talent typically associated with his size and offers limited mobility," wrote The Ringer's scouting report of Beck.
Teams don't usually use first-round picks on quarterbacks lacking arm talent and mobility.
Beck has a lot of starting experience, won a lot of games and has strong football IQ. He has a chance to be a decent QB.
Just not one worthy of the NFL Draft's first round.
